Nikon NIKKOR 200-400mm Lens Review
World Imaging Leader Nikon launched this one of a kind Lens to offer a distinct zoom lens range of 200-400mm. Claimed to be World’s first AF-S VR super telephoto 200-400mm zoom lens, this zoom lens is specially designed for those photo buffs who love clicking nature/wildlife shots or sports action.
Design
The construction of the lens is a massive one which weight approx. 3kg, which makes it highly unsuitable for carrying around purpose. The lens is 365.5mm long which might doubt you in the first look whether a camera can mount it safely or not.
Thankfully, the lens is accompanied with a remarkable padded shoulder case which lets you fit the camera body attached to it easily.
The zoom ring on the lens is perfectly placed at the center of gravity which allows balanced photographic operations.
The water resistant sealing in the lens can be considered the up gradation from its predecessor AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm and helps preventing the lens against dust and moisture. It is quite helpful and needy for the mechanical system like this which is directed for sports and nature photography.
The build quality of the lens shouts itself with almost whole lens is made up from lightweight magnesium andweather-sealed construction. There’s a metal loop attached to either side of the tripod collar which is to make sure that weight of the lens doesn’t strain the lens mount.
The additional glass protector for the lens is supplied for the front filter thread. There’s a larger rubber bumper fitted on the perimeter of the optics where you fit in the 52mm filter for further protection.

The NIKKOR lens can be regarded as combination of four fixed focal length super telephoto lens in a single construction. The lens offers maximum aperture of f/4 which is slightly higher than what Canon offers in its 100-400mm f/4.5 -5.6L IS USM lens.
The lens comes with Vibration Reduction technology which offers 3 stop faster shutter speed. The lens comes with two VR Modes – Normal mode for normal speed and active mode where you need to capture extreme movement.
The Silence Wave Motor of the lens ensures ultra-high-speed focusing with zero sound operation and excellent accuracy. The inclusion of 4 Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass elements reduces chromatic aberration and gives high resolution images.
Nikon NIKKOR 200–400 mm zoom lens comes with numerous focusing systems that work at both autofocus andmanual operations.
One of the unique features of the lens is AF Recall Mode which offers ease to the shooters of returning to the last predetermined focus point with just a single button press. This is especially needy for sports photography where you need instantaneous change of focus points.
The Lens comes with Nano Crystal Coating which is Nikon’s patented formula for reducing internal flaring and ghosting in the images. The construction of over twenty optical elements makes it necessary for lens coating to be applied for delivering sharp images.

This NIKKOR lens is designed compatible with both DX and FX cameras. On APS-C DSLR camera, the lens can act as a 300-600mm zoom lens.
