Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Review

LINUX Vendor Canonical released much anticipated desktop and server version of its Ubuntu 12.04 codenamed Precise Pangolin, on April 26th, 2012. The newest version of the operating system is a long-term support (LTS), scheduled to be supported for five years. With Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Mark Shuttleworth’s Canonical has brought in a stable release which is directly aimed at enterprise distributions and intangibly looking for a quarter’s end on a reputed note.
Steve George, head of communications at Canonical said, “It is observed that the users enjoy their environments more if it looks beautiful and modest.  That’s why, there are substantial set of changes made for users in the new release and the ultimate point lies in the beauty of the feature. It is true that the new features will attract the loyal followers as there have been major improvements with the latest release.”
Since the release of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin), Canonical has been increasingly focusing on enterprise users aiming at the server version of distribution. Canonical CEO confirmed that Ubuntu 12.04 LTS would have certification of leading desktop firms including Dell, HP and Lenovo and following that would finally take on Red Hat Enterprise Linux for both server fronts and workstation. ARM is still on the way as the new ARM based HP Moonshot servers are expected to use Ubuntu Linux. Company has also confirmed that they are still seeking support from other big names who can switch to Ubuntu on their desktops.
