Looks like Sony isn’t over with its share of smartphone release, especially piling the Xperia line up with loads ofstylish phones. Latest in the news is Sony Xperia Tipo and its dual SIM brother Tipo Dual, following traditional Xperia Black appearance but this time it’s much like a kid in a hefty build.

Design

Xperia Tipo and Tipo Dual is a low end smartphone which is generally not Sony’s forte. The phone is 13mm thick, and belongs to below 100g weight category which makes it highly pocket-able and easy for grip.

The phone appears a solid construction with robust chassis which holds its HVGA screen of 3.2 inches. The TFT capacitive touchscreen supports 256K colors and comes with the screen resolution of 320 x 480 pixels resolutiongiving 180 ppi screen density

On the front of this small screen, you’ll find three capacitive touch buttons for basic functions – Home, Back andoptions. The phone is available in four different color variant – Black, White, Blue and Dark Red.

Performance

Designed for the first time smartphone users, the Xperia Tipo and Tipo Dual are powered by 800MHz Snapdragon processor. Complementing that is a decent 512MB RAM which delivers smoother multitasking and faster processing on your phone.

The phone runs on Android’s latest Operating System – Ice Cream Sandwich which might appeal mobile users who are looking for affordable smartphones. Sony hasn’t made any changes in the UI of the phone.

Both Xperia Tipo and Tipo Dual are packed with 2.9GB internal storage out of which approx. 2.5GB is available to the user. The internal memory can be expanded up to 32GB, once you bung in any external memory card.

While Xperia Tipo is a single SIM smartphone, Sony Xperia Tipo Dual as the name suggest is Dual SIM version. The phone doesn’t allow Dual standby that means you can’t keep both the SIMs activated at the same time. There’s a dedicated button on the side of the phone which allows you to choose the current active SIM.

Camera

Sony Xperia Tipo is integrated with 3.15 Mega pixels which can capture 2048 x 1536 pixels pictures. The camera is equipped with Geo Tagging feature which allows geographical tagging of your pictures at different location.

The rear camera also boast VGA video recording and lets you capture your favorite moments in the phone in no time. Disappointingly, the phone isn’t instilled with secondary camera.

Connectivity

Sony Xperia Tipo phones allow internet connectivity at HSDPA enabled 3G at 7.2Mbps and with HSUPA at 5.76Mbps. The phone also lets you access web using GPRS at 86Kbps and EDGE at 237Kbps.

You can go on hours of listening of your favorite music albums by plugging in the headphone in 3.5mm audio jack. The phone also enables listening to FM radio.

Battery

The phone is powered with standard lithium-ion battery of 1500mAh which allows maximum standby time of 360 hours and allows talk time of up to 6 hours (3G). You can also go on continuous music play of up to 36 hrs.
