Putting an end to the series of rumors, Microsoft finally unleashed its 10.6 inch Microsoft Surface tablet against the much popular Ipad from Apple; with this launch, the technology leader has proved that tablets are no more a two horse race of Apple and Google.
Microsoft Surface Tablets will be available in two different versions including Windows RT version which will be integrated with ARM processor and will run on Windows 8 Tablet version. The other one will be powered by Intel Core Processor and will be operating on Desktop version of Windows 8.
Microsoft has announced Windows RT version availability followed by Windows 8 general availability which is expected in October this year while the Window 8 Pro version will be available in the market 90 days later.
While speaking about pricing, Microsoft clearly mentioned that retail prices will be announced with the availability in the market. Tablets are going to give competitive edge to the ARM tablets and Intel Ultrabook PC available in the market, in terms of pricing.

The Surface Tablets will be featuring 10.6 inch touch screen which is enveloped inside magnesium chassis that is named by Microsoft as VaprMg – pronounced as Vapor mag.  The most distinctive feature of the tablet is its3mm thick touch cover which is magnetically attached; it can be either folded or can be used as full touchscreen keyboard.
The touch cover is like a protecting screen which will transform the tablet into a full sized keyboard with a built intrack pad. It is packed with unique pressure sensitive technology which can sense the gestures of users, making it faster to type than the visual keyboard.
It comes with another cover option which is a 5mm thick cover accompanied with a built in trackpad. The foldable one comes with built in accelerometer which powers down the tablet when folded against tablet.
This 5mm Type cover protects the screen and offers typing in a more traditional way than what is seen in present tablets.
Microsoft’s Intel based surface Tablet will come with Windows 8 Pro running with Intel’s 22nm Ivy Bridge Chips. The tablet will be coming with the thickness of 13.5mm which will be holding its 10.6 inch clear full HD display.
The construction will be a based on Magnesium casing and will be either shipped with 64GB or 128GB inbuilt storage. This version will also include digital ink support through a pen which will work by magnetizing its body and will work on the clear type HD display.
The desktop version tablet – Windows 8 Pro will weigh 903g including its 40 watts hrs battery. The tablet will be integrating MicroSDXC cardMini display video PortUSB 3.0 interface and 2×2 MIMO antennae.
The Windows RT version is a thinner version of the two tablets with mere 9.3mm thickness and weighs approx. 675g including a kickstand. According to Microsoft, this is the first PC which comes with vapor deposited (PVD)magnesium casing.
The RT version will be sporting 10.6 inch clear type HD screen and will be packed with 32GB or 64GB inbuilt memory. Microsoft hasn’t confirmed about the resolution of the display yet.
This lighter version will be packed with 31.5 Watt hour battery and will be instilled with MicroSD card slotMicro HD Video PortUSB v2.0 interface and 2×2 MIMO antennae.
Both versions of Microsoft surface Tablets are featured with optional Touch and Type keyboard covers to offer higher flexibility and portability to the user. The tablets are also integrated with HD cameras on both the front and rear ends of the construction.
